FAQ

What is Sourdough?

Sourdough is a natural bread made using traditional techniques harnessing the power of the naturally occurring yeast and bacteria in flour. Only three ingredients are required to produce a loaf; flour, water and salt.

Why does it take 3 days to prepare sourdough?

Due to the nature of natural leaven, the time taken to feed and nurture the ferment and then hand shape, rest and offer time for the bread to rise naturally means the lead time for ordering can be up to 72 hours before the bread is baked.

Why is sourdough easier to digest than commercial bread?

Phytic acid found in the bran part of wheat can be a cause of digestive discomfort because it inhibits the body’s ability to produce enzymes that breakdown proteins and starch in the stomach. During the long, slow process of fermentation this acid is broken down which makes nutrients more available and wheat and grains are readily digested.
